How to Start a New Golf Season

How to Start a New Golf Season

If you are one of those golfers who “let yourself go” over the winter, don’t fret. Although there is nothing better for your long-term development than to practice year round, not playing during the off season is sometimes a positive.

I’ve seen an extended lay off help touring pros as well as amateurs. Especially if they’ve been over stressed with a nagging swing fault they’ve been working on excessively. When you return from not playing in a while you take the pressure off yourself, lowering your expectations and thus relaxing more. Now that you’re back playing golf again let’s find a way to address your possible swing fault and prescribe an antidote that’s easy to apply and less stressful.

Here is what I recommend you do before starting your spring golf season:

1) Start with a one-on-one lesson with video analysis.
2) Make sure the lesson starts with a look at your address position.
3) Once you review your video, make a list of priorities.
4) Learn specific drills that relate directly to your problem.
5) Perform the drills at your home or office as often as possible.
6) Before you play golf, perform the drills on the range
7) Make sure you forget everything you learned once you head for the golf course
